Clipper's Steelwinds project in Lackawanna, New York is passing through a dark and uncertain repair/redesign. Earlier in the week only the tower on the right hand (north) had blades, so it appears that the lattice boom crane in the center of the photo is installing, not removing, the turbine hub and blades - presumably after the repair of the gear box.

Winds of Change Blow into Lackawanna
News about the advantages of switching to clean, renewable energy sources is everywhere these days. Reduced pollution, higher quality of life, lowered dependence on foreign sources and less disruption caused by fluctuating prices often top the list. But frequently, the transition from older fossil fuels is seen as a premium paid for the luxuries of cleaner air, and knowing that local energy supply treads as lightly on the Earth as possible. A lot of controversy about Wind Turbines being built on the shore line of Lackawanna. Some say they are an eye sore and will be VERY noisy, and others say Western New York has a chance to lead the way in an energy revolution.
